Cornwall Council has embraced the government's recent implementation of regulations mandating planning permission for properties utilised as short-term lets.
Announced by Michael Gove MP, Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, during his recent visit to St Agnes, these alterations are designed to curb the proliferation of short-term holiday lets.
Under these regulations, individuals renting out their primary or sole residences for more than 90 nights annually will be required to submit a planning application. This measure aims to address the challenges faced by local communities where short-term lets impede residents' ability to secure rental or ownership housing.
Furthermore, a newly established mandatory national register will furnish local authorities with vital data on short-term let operations, facilitating informed decision-making in the planning arena.
